Garden greening and rainwater grant
Grants of up to €750 help private owners and tenants in Goeree-Overflakkee green their property and keep rainwater out of the sewer.
You can remove paving and plant greenery, disconnect a downpipe, install gravel or permeable paving, create a rainwater pond or infiltration system, plant trees, or add a green roof. The listed measures also include grass-concrete paving, rainwater-storage fences and flood boards. Every project must still meet the conditions below. Other measures can qualify if they meet those same conditions. A green roof retains rainwater itself; the rules explain that it does not combine with storing that runoff for your own use.
The grant starts at €4 per m² that stops draining to the sewer. Add €2 per m² of greenery created on that disconnected surface; this greenery excludes roof area. Add €6 per m² of green roof on disconnected surface. The additions apply to their qualifying areas, rather than automatically to every square metre of a project. Trees planted on the newly greened surface add €50 each if their trunk circumference is at least 12 cm. The combined grant is capped at €750 per application.
Eligibility
- You must be a private owner or tenant of a building or plot, rather than a legal entity or business. This entry covers the private-applicant route. The project must be within Goeree-Overflakkee.
- Your measures must adapt the living environment to climate change, strengthen its greenery and water structure, and reduce rainwater entering the sewer. At least 20 m² must be disconnected surface or newly created green surface that no longer drains to the foul sewer.
- You cannot receive another award under this scheme or its predecessor for climate adaptation in built-up areas. The municipal invitation also excludes an address that has already received a greening grant. Measures forming part of a new-build project are excluded.
- Apply at least two months before starting. Costs of activities begun before applying, or begun during processing without the municipal executive’s prior written permission, are ineligible.
- Be available to discuss the project, cooperate with spot checks, complete it within one year of the grant award and maintain the resulting situation for at least five years.
- Notify the municipality immediately in writing if work or obligations may not be completed in full or on time, and report relevant changes affecting them, including an address change. Donations to third parties need municipal permission. Your award may impose further obligations.
- The municipality can refuse an application if you have not shown that the grant is needed for the work, if the work does not sufficiently benefit the municipality or its residents, or if the grant would breach applicable law.
