Green-roof premium
A grant for contractor-installed planted roofs on occupied homes in Zwevegem, paying €30 per m² up to €1,500.
This entry covers extensive green roofs installed by a contractor: roofs planted with vegetation such as moss and succulents. They store rainwater and help reduce pressure on sewers and the risk of flooding.
The grant pays €30 per m², up to €1,500 for this route. If eligible costs are lower than the calculated grant, payment is limited to those costs. Deductible VAT, structural roof work, waterproof roof covering and other roof work are excluded. You can make several applications for an address only until the highest subsidy threshold under the rules has been reached.
A filter for reusing the water attracts an additional flat €50 premium when shown on the invoice and detailed plan.
Eligibility
- The roof must be on or beside an occupied dwelling in Zwevegem registered as a main residence. Roofs at businesses and other organisations are excluded, except for liberal professions with an office or practice at their own home. For a building with several dwellings, written co-owner consent is required. If you do not own the building, the owner must co-sign the application.
- The green roof must cover at least 5 m². Across its whole area it must include a supporting structure, root-resistant waterproof roof seal, drainage layer, filter fabric, substrate (growing-medium) layer at least 6 cm thick and vegetation layer. It must store at least 33 litres of water per m². The rules describe extensive roofs as 4–12 cm thick; the separate 6 cm minimum for substrate still applies.
- The growing medium must consist mainly of volcanic rock. For extensive roofs it is nutrient-poor, with only a small amount of added organic material such as bark compost or peat. The filter fabric must be protected from sunlight because it is not UV-resistant.
- The supporting roof must be correctly sized and insulated, except for unheated outbuildings such as carports and garages. Its slope may not exceed 45°. Native plants are preferred.
- The works must comply with the law. Obtain an environmental permit in time when one is required.
- Repair failed planting or works and keep the green roof in good condition for at least ten years. The municipality may inspect the works at any time and may reclaim the subsidy if the maintenance duty is not met. On a move or sale, the new owner becomes responsible for maintaining the roof.
