Residential equipment rebates

NIPSCOIndianacloses 30 Nov 2026

Rebates help residential energy customers in northern Indiana buy efficient heat pumps, smart thermostats and other home equipment.

You can claim money back after installing eligible equipment. Examples in the 2026 schedule include:

  • Air-source heat pumps: $800 for a SEER2 rating of 15.2–16.1, $900 for 16.2–17.0, or $1,000 for 17.1 or higher. SEER2 is the equipment's seasonal cooling-efficiency rating; submit its AHRI equipment certificate to show the qualifying rating.
  • Ductless mini-split heat pumps: $60 with SEER2 of at least 17.1 and HSPF2 of at least 8.6. HSPF2 is the seasonal heating-performance rating; both ratings must qualify and an AHRI certificate is required.
  • Smart Wi-Fi thermostats: $65. The thermostat must connect to the internet so you can programme and adjust it remotely. If it needs a gateway to connect, install that gateway and include its model on the invoice and application.

The full application contains other equipment offers. Your rebate cannot exceed the equipment or service's total purchase price; eligible costs are materials, equipment and external labour. Payment normally goes to the account holder, with eligible landlord and contractor-discount exceptions. A contractor may instead give you the full rebate as an immediate purchase discount, then receive the rebate directly. You cannot receive both payments for the same equipment.

Eligibility

You must have active NIPSCO residential service: electric rate 611 for the heat pumps, or electric rate 611 and/or gas rate 311, 315 or 351 for the thermostat. Install the equipment in a property you own or with the owner's permission.

  • Buy new equipment and have it installed and operating before you apply. Installation must meet applicable codes and manufacturer specifications. Self-installation is allowed if all programme requirements are met.
  • Used, refurbished, resale, certified-new, leased, rented or rebuilt equipment does not qualify. Neither do new parts added to existing equipment, insurance or warranty replacements, prizes, or equipment funded by a third-party organization at reduced or no cost to you or the property owner. Purchases through NIPSCO's Online Marketplace, Retail Products or Midstream Channel are excluded.
  • Heat pumps have a general limit of two of each measure per customer per year. Ductless mini-splits also have a two-rebate annual limit per installation address. Thermostats are limited to two per address every three years. If you have both NIPSCO gas and electric service and install an air-source heat pump together with a gas furnace or boiler, choose the heat-pump rebate or the furnace/boiler rebate; you cannot claim both.
  • Existing and new properties can qualify, but builders are limited to 20 new-construction applications per company in 2026. Homes participating in the Residential New Construction Program cannot participate in this rebate programme. The equipment examples here cover homes that have not received a Residential New Construction Program rebate in the preceding three years.

You must cooperate with any requested installation inspection; refusal can result in denial. The signed application includes a waiver of claims against NIPSCO and the programme organizations, and an obligation to cover their losses arising from equipment, design or installation connected with the programme, to the extent allowed by law. Money obtained through fraudulent or misrepresented information must be returned, and violations can lead to refusal of payment or participation.

Round restrictions
  • New equipment must be purchased and installed from 1 January to 30 November 2026. Apply within 60 days of installation; installations after 31 October require a postmark by 30 November.
  • First-come processing while limited funds remain; programme can end without notice. Later postmarks are conditional on 2027 availability, funding and eligibility.

Check the equipment requirements in the linked 2026 application, then purchase and install the qualifying equipment. Complete and sign the application as the account holder. Attach the itemised paid invoice or receipt showing make/model, total cost, installation date and address, payment evidence and contractor contact details. Include an AHRI certificate for HVAC equipment; the form points to the AHRI directory for this certificate.

Email one application per email to NIPSCO.SaveEnergy@TRCcompanies.com, or post it to Residential Rebate Program, c/o TRC, PO Box 14237, Merrillville, IN 46411. Fax submission is available at 1-877-511-5032. TRC administers the programme and answers questions at 1-800-721-7385.

Submit within 60 days of installation. For installations after 31 October 2026, the application must be postmarked by 30 November 2026. Later applications only begin processing in January 2027 if programme availability, funding and eligibility allow; this is not guaranteed 2026 funding. Funds are limited and applications are processed first come, first served; the programme may end without notice.

If you use a contractor's instant discount, both you and the contractor sign that section, and the invoice must itemise the discount. For other contractor-assisted applications, you remain responsible for making sure submission happens on time. Allow up to eight weeks after receipt for payment, with possible delays for inspections or high participation. Incomplete applications may be delayed or denied, and receiving an application does not guarantee payment.
