Workplace charge point funding
Microbusinesses, sole traders and third-sector organisations in rural and island Scotland can receive up to £5,000 per organisation for private staff or fleet charging.

Transport Scotland funds this Energy Saving Trust grant for private charge points used by staff or fleet vehicles. It reimburses up to 100% of eligible purchase and installation costs, capped at £5,000 per organisation. It does not fund public charging. You can apply for up to two locations, with a separate application for each; the cap remains per organisation.
You pay the installer before claiming reimbursement. Other grants, discounts or lower final costs can reduce the award, and you pay any uncovered balance. If eligible, apply for the separate UK Workplace Charging Scheme alongside this grant and show that support on your quote.
Eligibility
Apply as a microbusiness, sole trader, charity, community group or not-for-profit organisation. Microbusinesses and sole traders must have nine or fewer full-time employees. They must also meet either financial test in both the current and preceding financial year: annual turnover (business revenue) of £632,000 or less, or a balance-sheet total of £316,000 or less. Applicants need Scottish premises and at least two years of continuous operation without closure or inactivity.
Install at your business premises on a Scottish island or in Urban Rural Classification category 5, 6, 7 or 8. Check the postcode using the checker on the official page. Own the privately owned installation land or have the owner's consent and authority. Designated charging bays must give users reliable, unobstructed access during business hours. Units must be AC chargers rated at 22 kW or below; rapid chargers are excluded.
Use an installer approved by both Energy Saving Trust and the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV), and an OZEV-authorised charge point model. Apply yourself as the organisation, with its name on all supporting documents. Installer or other third-party applications are rejected. Written permission can allow someone else to communicate with Energy Saving Trust, but not apply for you.
Declare public financial support governed by subsidy-control rules in the Minimal Financial Assistance category, and comparable subsidies, received by you, your business and group companies in the three years before the agreement, plus outstanding applications. Energy Saving Trust must be satisfied that the relevant total, including this grant, stays within the £315,000 threshold. Before applying, disclose convictions of the applicant, its directors, or anyone with powers to represent, make decisions for or control the organisation for the offences specified in Regulation 57 of the Public Contracts (Scotland) Regulations 2015, referenced in clause 27 of the linked grant terms. Also disclose insolvency or suspended-business circumstances, grave professional misconduct, and unpaid tax or social-security obligations. Disclosed circumstances are considered individually; failure to disclose leads to rejection. Energy Saving Trust may consider exceptions to eligibility on their merits. A breach of eligibility after payment requires full repayment.

- Accept within 14 days or by 11 February 2027, whichever is earlier. Complete installation and claim by offer expiry or 3 March 2027, whichever is earlier.
Use the online application linked from the official page. Provide evidence of your organisation type, such as tax returns or accounts for a business, or charity registration, constitution or company documents for a third-sector organisation. Submit your preferred eligible installer's quote dated within one month, on company letterhead, naming your organisation and installation address. It must itemise the authorised model, outlet type and power, civil works and materials, VAT, all installation costs and other funding. Energy Saving Trust recommends obtaining three quotes.
Receive and accept a grant offer before installation begins; ongoing or completed installations cannot be funded. Return the acceptance form within 14 days of the offer or by 11 February 2027, whichever is earlier. Offers normally last three months unless otherwise stated. Complete installation and claim by your grant expiry or 3 March 2027, whichever is earlier. If changing installer, obtain approval for a replacement quote before work starts. Report delays promptly; extensions are not guaranteed and missed deadlines can mean withdrawal.
After completion, submit the signed claim form, a photograph, Electrical Installation Certificate and an itemised invoice paid in full. Documents must match the applicant organisation and installation address. Provide the organisation's matching bank details; payment cannot go to a third-party account. Funding is first come, first served and may run out before March 2027.
