Sustainability Rebates Program
A rebate of 10%, up to AUD 250, for household rooftop solar installed at eligible Shellharbour properties.
Esta oportunidad está disponible actualmente en inglés.
Install rooftop solar at a home in the Shellharbour Local Government Area in New South Wales. The council rebate supports local electrification and emissions reductions.
The household solar rebate covers 10% of eligible costs after other discounts and rebates, up to AUD 250. Eligible costs include the solar equipment, installation, labour, parts, inverter and meter changes; travel and shipping are excluded. You must pay in full before claiming. The payment cannot exceed 50% of your remaining out-of-pocket cost or create a net financial gain.
Each eligible property can receive at most two rebates across the 2026/27 programme. Funding is limited and applications receive priority in submission order. Submission does not guarantee approval or payment; Council may amend the budget, eligibility, amounts or timeframes.
Eligibility
- You can apply as an owner-occupier, landlord or renter of an eligible household property. The property must be in the Shellharbour Local Government Area and be a dwelling on its own Torrens title or a strata lot, rated residential. New developments are excluded.
- Infrastructure on or connected to assets owned or controlled by State Government agencies or other public authorities is excluded. This includes public housing even when the applicant is a private resident or tenant, and State-controlled land or facilities.
- Your solar system must be new, previously unused and installed at the applicant property between 1 July 2026 and 30 June 2027. Licensed professionals must provide or install it, and applicable works must meet all necessary installation standards.
- You must read and accept the guidelines, supply all required information and attachments through Rebately, and permit Council to verify the installation on site if requested. Council arranges a suitable time before visiting.
- By applying, you consent to Council collecting, using and storing personal information for eligibility and programme administration, and sharing it with Rebately for processing, assessment and administration. You must also agree to product-data collection for reporting and to contact during and after the application for evaluation, reporting and feedback. Personal or property-specific case studies require your prior consent.
- Council staff can apply if eligible, except staff directly involved in assessing or approving applications.

Provide personal identification and your most recent electricity bill or rates notice showing the installation address. Include a supplier or installer tax invoice or receipt showing the property address, installation date, individually itemised product costs, all State and Federal discounts or rebates, your remaining out-of-pocket cost and confirmation of full payment. Payment plans and bank transaction records are not accepted as substitutes for the supplier receipt.
Provide photos showing the installation. Where possible include one image of the panels and one of the inverter. Photos must be taken by a suitably qualified installer or from ground level to avoid injury.
For rooftop solar, also provide one of these documents: the installer’s Small-scale Technology Certificate assignment form; a Solar Panel Validation report verifying installed panel serial numbers; or a completed Certificate of Compliance – Electrical Work. The guidelines state that this electrical compliance certificate must be submitted within seven days of completing any safety and compliance test on an electrical installation.
Council assesses the application. If it grants final approval, the rebate is paid to your nominated bank account within 30 days. You may request access to or correction of your personal information through Council. Product faults, defects, installation or performance issues must be resolved with the product provider under its warranties and service provisions; Council accepts no liability for product-related loss or tenant–owner disputes. Council, applicants and providers must first make reasonable efforts to resolve programme disputes through good-faith negotiation. Any old products must be disposed of responsibly under applicable waste and recycling rules, by you or the installer.
