Grants of up to €100,000 help individuals and nonprofit groups run community projects that cut emissions or prepare Lübeck for climate impacts.

Tämän rahoitusmahdollisuuden kuvaus on toistaiseksi englanniksi.

The Lübecker Klimafonds “Wir für die Zukunft” supports projects in Lübeck with a clear climate purpose. This entry covers noncommercial projects without investment purchases: for example, climate education, communications and activities encouraging climate-friendly behaviour.

The city provides a grant to cover a project’s financing shortfall. You must contribute at least 10% of eligible expenditure. The award depends on the type and scale of the project and cannot exceed €100,000. Other funding can count towards support, but all grants together cannot exceed actual costs.

Eligible expenditure includes planning, delivery, necessary project materials and staff, fees, publicity, events, evaluation and documentation. Administration costs are limited to 10% of total costs. Investment purchases are excluded from this route. If you can recover input VAT, the grant is calculated on net amounts.

Eligibility

  • Individuals and nonprofit associations or organisations can apply for projects within Lübeck. The project must clearly address climate mitigation or adaptation, including sustainability work with a recognisable climate link.
  • Wait for the award notice or agreement before starting the work.
  • Statutory duties, general institutional funding, running costs after the project, projects mainly promoting an organisation and delivery of existing programmes are excluded.
  • Awards may carry additional conditions, such as an energy consultation or accompanying educational activities for schools. If activities are delegated to assistants under §57 AO, a separate agreement must define their work. Where donations are passed to a nonprofit body, it must have recognised charitable environmental and climate-protection purposes under §52 no. 8 AO and prove its tax-privileged status; bodies unable to use the money for their statutory purpose cannot act as assistants either.
  • Provide data to measure results and an interim report no later than six months after project start. Allow municipal checks, report changes or cancellation, and involve the board in project changes. For grants up to €5,000, the Klimaleitstelle project team decides whether changes are approved.
  • Within three months after completion, submit a narrative report and financial statement showing how the money was used. Present original receipts if requested; on-site checks are possible. The grant must be repaid for breached obligations or rules, and overpayments must be returned when verified expenditure is lower than approved.

Hakukierroksen ehdot
  • Filing cutoff for consideration at the mid-December 2026 board meeting; funding is subject to available funds.

Apply through the city’s online Klimafonds form to the Klimaleitstelle project team. Include applicant details, the project location, aims and target group, schedule, planning and a cost and financing plan supported by binding cost quotations, as needed for your measure. Include the owner’s written consent where relevant.

Submit by 29 November 2026 for consideration at the board meeting in mid-December 2026. For help completing the application, contact klimafonds@luebeck.de or call the municipal service number 115.

The board ranks projects and recommends awards; the city makes the final decision. Funding is limited and there is no entitlement. When a period’s allocation is exhausted, applications can be rejected for that period and placed on a waiting list for the next one. Up to five projects per quarter seeking no more than €5,000 may use a simplified decision process.

Payment is staged: an initial payment follows approval, a further payment follows evidence of costs and progress, and the final payment follows successful completion and checks of the spending evidence.
