Klimabonus electric-vehicle purchase grant
Individuals can claim a grant for qualifying electric or hydrogen vehicles registered in Luxembourg, including eligible older purchases and used cars or vans.
Tämän rahoitusmahdollisuuden kuvaus on toistaiseksi englanniksi.
This grant helps pay for battery-electric vehicles, hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles and qualifying older plug-in hybrids. The award depends on the vehicle, the contract date and first circulation date. Qualifying electric and hydrogen purchase, rental or leasing contracts had to be signed by 30 June 2026; eligible claims can still be submitted afterwards.
For new battery-electric vehicles contracted between 1 October 2024 and 30 June 2026 and first put into circulation by 30 June 2027, the grant is limited to 50% of the purchase price excluding VAT:
- Passenger cars receive up to €6,000 if electricity consumption is at most 160 Wh/km. A car above that threshold also qualifies for this amount if it has at least seven seats, including the driver, and the applicant belongs to a household of at least five people.
- Other passenger cars receive up to €3,000 if consumption is at most 180 Wh/km, or at most 200 Wh/km with maximum net propulsion power of 150 kW or less.
- Vans receive up to €6,000. Electric quadricycles, motorcycles, light motorcycles and mopeds, including scooters and pedelec45, receive up to €1,000.
Consumption is the electricity used per kilometre under the WLTP test cycle, recorded in the vehicle's conformity certificate or equivalent manufacturer certificate registered in the national vehicle database. New hydrogen fuel-cell cars and vans in the same contract and first-circulation cohort receive up to €6,000, capped at 50% of the price excluding VAT; the listed smaller hydrogen vehicle categories receive up to €1,000 on the same percentage basis.
Eligible used battery-electric or hydrogen cars and vans contracted between 1 October 2024 and 30 June 2026 receive €1,500. The used-vehicle grant is paid only once per vehicle, but a vehicle previously subsidised when new can qualify again as used.
Earlier contracts use earlier award bands. For battery-electric cars and vans first circulated from 1 January 2019 to 10 May 2020, the electric and hydrogen car/van award was €5,000; the smaller categories received 25% of the price excluding VAT, capped at €500. Contracts from 11 May 2020 to 31 March 2021, with first circulation from 11 May 2020 through 31 December 2023, brought cars and vans up to €8,000 and smaller categories up to €1,000, both capped at 50% excluding VAT. For contracts from 1 April 2021 to 30 September 2024 and first circulation by 30 September 2025, electric vans received up to €8,000; cars received up to €8,000 with consumption of at most 180 Wh/km, or at most 200 Wh/km and power of at most 150 kW for contracts from 1 April 2022, or consumption above 180 Wh/km with at least seven seats and an applicant from a household of at least five; other cars received up to €3,000; smaller categories received up to €1,000. All these awards were capped at 50% excluding VAT. Hydrogen awards for contracts from 11 May 2020 to 30 September 2024 and first circulation by 30 September 2025 were up to €8,000 for cars/vans and €1,000 for smaller categories, capped at 50% excluding VAT. Consult the official table for the criteria attached to your earlier contract.
The older plug-in hybrid award was €2,500 for cars/vans contracted by 31 March 2021 and first circulated during 2019–2021, or €1,500 for contracts from 1 April to 31 December 2021 with first circulation by 31 December 2021. The €1,500 route also allowed first circulation through 31 December 2023 when the contract was signed from 1 April to 30 September 2021 and originally scheduled delivery was by 31 December 2021.
Eligibility
You must be an individual owner, holder or keeper of a vehicle registered in Luxembourg. Residents and non-residents can qualify. For rental or leasing, you must be identified on the registration certificate or contract and the owner must waive the grant. The official non-resident leasing route requires the leasing company to have its registered office in Luxembourg.
- New battery-electric and hydrogen vehicles must not have been registered abroad. First circulation in Luxembourg must fall between 1 January 2019 and 30 June 2027, and the purchase, rental or leasing contract must have been signed by 30 June 2026. The narrower dates for each award band also apply.
- For a new vehicle, registration in your name must occur within six months of first circulation, extended to 12 months for contracts signed from 1 April 2022. For sales contracts from 1 October 2024, the official form allows 24 months if the first and only previous owner was a business authorised to sell vehicles.
- Used electric or hydrogen cars/vans must be at least three years old from first registration when acquired and must never have been registered abroad. Purchases between people in the same household are excluded.
- Plug-in hybrids must emit no more than 50 g CO₂/km. For first circulation after 1 September 2020, the combined WLTP emissions value applies. Their contract deadline was 31 December 2021 and first circulation deadline was normally 31 December 2021. The extension through 31 December 2023 requires a contract signed by 30 September 2021 and originally scheduled delivery by 31 December 2021.
Keep a new vehicle as owner, holder or keeper for at least seven months after registration in your name for contracts before 1 April 2022, 12 months for contracts from 1 April 2022 through 30 September 2024, or 36 months for contracts from 1 October 2024. Aid is not due if the new vehicle is disposed of or exported within the applicable period. Where the holder applies, the official form also requires a rental/leasing term of at least 12 months for the April 2022 cohort and 36 months for contracts from October 2024. For eligible used vehicles bought from October 2024, keep ownership or holder/keeper status for at least 24 months after registration. Claiming before the end of these periods does not remove the retention obligation.
The vehicle grant can be combined with the bicycle/pedelec grant, but cannot be combined with the sustainable-mobility tax deductions.

- Eligible electric/hydrogen contracts had to be concluded by 30 June 2026; this is a contract deadline, not the claim deadline.
- For the 1 October 2024–30 June 2026 new-vehicle cohort, first circulation must be by 30 June 2027.
- Claims are due within three years of first circulation, extended to four years for contracts from 1 July 2024; waiting-period exemptions apply.
Apply through MyGuichet.lu using a private account and LuxTrust, eID or eIDAS authentication, or send the application form and supporting documents to Administration de l’environnement, Subsides et aides financières, 1 avenue du Rock’n’Roll, L-4361 Esch-sur-Alzette.
Submit within three years of the vehicle's first circulation, extended to four years for contracts signed from 1 July 2024. Ordinarily, a claim must wait seven months after registration in your name, or 12 months for contracts after 31 March 2022. That waiting period does not apply to an individual who owns the vehicle, or to contracts signed from 1 October 2024.
Attach the vehicle registration and conformity certificates and bank account details. Rental/leasing applicants need the relevant contract, and online holder/keeper applications need the owner's waiver. Smaller vehicle categories require a paid invoice showing the vehicle and purchase price excluding VAT. The official checklist also requires the sales contract when it was signed from 11 May 2020 to 30 June 2026 and the vehicle was first circulated from 1 April 2021 to 30 June 2027.
