Energy and climate grants
Grants help private and company building owners install or extend solar electricity and solar thermal systems in Steinhausen.

For solar electricity, the municipal contribution is CHF 600 per kilowatt of peak output (kWp) on a roof and CHF 650 per kWp on a façade. It is additional to the federal one-off payment. Solar thermal systems, which provide heat, receive a flat CHF 1,000.
The municipal maximum is CHF 20,000 per building application for new buildings, or per property parcel for existing buildings and installations. The total for one object cannot exceed that maximum over five years. Contributions below CHF 500 are not paid.
Eligibility
- You must own the building or installation. Measures must be in Steinhausen; measures spanning municipalities may also qualify if they benefit Steinhausen.
- New solar electricity systems must have at least 2 kW of rated output; an extension must add at least 2 kW. When replacing a system, only the additional installed output receives support. Modules must be tested to a recognised standard, such as TÜV, IEC or a comparable standard, with manufacturer evidence.
- Solar thermal systems must be installed on buildings at least ten years old. New systems need at least 2 kW of rated output, and extensions must add at least 2 kW. Collectors need a recognised test certificate.
- Support excludes buildings and installations of public undertakings run or majority-financed by the public sector, applications under special-use plans (ordinary or simplified development plans) adopted after 2020, and measures required by law or needed to obtain a label.
- Finish within 18 months of the grant commitment. Notify the municipality immediately if the project changes or will be late, and request an extension where necessary; at most two extensions of twelve months are possible. The commitment expires if completion misses the applicable period.
- Payment follows completion, commissioning and inspection if conditions are met. It goes only to the person or organisation commissioning the building work (Bauherrschaft); condominium associations must place it in their renewal fund. Contributions obtained through false or misleading information must be repaid with interest.

Send the application form before construction or implementation to Gemeinde Steinhausen, Bau und Umwelt, Energie- und Umweltkommission, Bahnhofstrasse 3, Postfach 164, 6312 Steinhausen. Starting after submission but before approval is at your own risk. Funding commitments depend on available municipal funds.
For solar electricity, attach certificates and details of system output, panel type, area and expected production. For solar thermal systems, attach the collector data sheet and test certificate plus the quotation showing collector type and number. After commissioning, report completion to Bau und Umwelt with the required documentation and payment details.
