Energy-efficiency rebates

Butler County RECIowafino a 600 USD

Rebates for members installing qualifying heat pumps, insulation and weatherization, or household electric-vehicle chargers.

Questa opportunità è attualmente disponibile in inglese.

Heat-pump rebates cover new geothermal systems at $1,000 per ton of capacity, with another $50 per unit fitted with a desuperheater, which recovers heat for water heating. Replacing an existing geothermal unit pays $500 per ton only if the old unit is at least ten years old and is not covered by warranty. The standard geothermal limit is 20 tons per structure, so one 20-ton unit with a desuperheater can receive up to $20,050 before the cost limit is applied. Every heat-pump rebate is limited to 50% of the unit’s cost.

Air-source heat pumps pay $500 per ton. Automatic gas backup adds $150 per ton when you sign a load-control agreement allowing the cooperative to control the heat pump during periods of peak demand.

For homes with separately metered electric heating, insulation pays 40% of material costs, up to $600 per structure per year. Weatherization or duct insulation pays 40%, up to $200. For homes with non-electric heating and central air conditioning, these rates fall to 20%, with limits of $300 for insulation and $100 for weatherization or duct insulation. Labor is excluded.

Household Level-2 EV chargers pay 50% of the equipment price, up to $500 per charger, for at most three chargers per household. Installation costs are excluded. Rebates of $200 or less for heat pumps, insulation and weatherization are applied as credits on your electricity bill.

Eligibility

  • You must be a Butler County REC member, and the equipment or improvements must be installed at a location served by the cooperative. Members with solar arrays or wind turbines cannot receive these rebates.
  • Geothermal heat pumps must be ENERGY STAR rated or meet both an Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) of at least 14 and a Coefficient of Performance (COP) of at least 3.3. Check the unit’s certification and efficiency specifications. The standard route described here covers systems of up to 20 tons per structure.
  • Air-source heat pumps must have a seasonal cooling-efficiency rating of at least 15 SEER or 14.3 SEER2. Check the equipment specifications for the applicable rating. There is a limit of two units per residential or farm-account building per year; the overview also limits multifamily dwellings to one rebate per family.
  • Insulation and weatherization are for existing homes and their outbuildings, not new construction. Work can be done by you or a professional. Insulation must bring ceilings to R38, walls to R19 or foundations to R10: these are the required insulation-resistance levels. Radiant barriers are excluded. Duct insulation qualifies only for ducts in spaces that are not heated or cooled. Homes without either metered electric heat or central air conditioning do not qualify.
  • EV chargers must be hardwired, and installation must meet local codes. You must agree to possible future load control and allow the charger into the cooperative’s load-management programme, as amended over time.
  • The cooperative can inspect your home or equipment before paying and can change incentive levels or terminate the programme without notice.

Download the relevant heat-pump, insulation/weatherization or household EV-charger application from Butler County REC’s rebate page. Complete the member-information page and the product-specific page, sign the application, and include a dated itemized sales receipt after installation. Mail it to PO Box 98, Allison, IA 50602. The rebate page currently invites members to return applications; the household EV-charger rebate is retroactive.

For EV chargers, provide the charger serial number and specifications and the make, model, VIN, license and purchase-date details for your household’s vehicles. Sign the required load-control agreement. For questions before buying or installing equipment, call the Energy Efficiency Department at 319-267-2726 or 888-267-2726.
