Residential heat pump rebate

Get $250 per ton towards a partial-home air-source heat pump if you are a SELCO residential electric customer without natural-gas heating.

Questa opportunità è attualmente disponibile in inglese.

Install an air-source heat pump that heats and cools part of your home in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, and claim the Tier I partial-home rebate. SELCO provides the rebate through NextZero; it is separate from its loan programme.

The award is $250 per ton of cooling capacity. One ton equals 12,000 BTUs, and the exact amount uses the cooling capacity on the contractor’s AHRI equipment certificate. Heat-pump rebates are capped at $9,000 per address.

Total incentives must not exceed 100% of the total project cost. This includes the NextZero rebate, the SELCO loan and any upcoming federal rebates. You must document every incentive the project will receive.

Awards below $1,000 are issued as an electric-bill credit; awards above $1,000 are paid by electronic transfer or cheque.

Eligibility

  • You must be a current SELCO residential electric customer in good standing. Customers with natural-gas heating are excluded.
  • The covered route is a partial-home installation: the heat pump heats and cools only part of the home. Cooling-only ductless mini-splits are ineligible.
  • An air-source system must have SEER2 of at least 15.2 and HSPF2 of at least 8.1, the cooling and heating efficiency ratings shown on the claim form. Its coefficient of performance (COP), the ratio of heat output to electricity input, must be at least 1.5 at 5°F. Ratings cannot be rounded up.
  • Have a Massachusetts-licensed contractor install the system; self-installation is not allowed. Purchase and installation must both take place between 1 January and 31 December 2026.
  • For the route covered here, obtain the contractor’s “ACCA Approved Version 8 Manual J” load calculation: the sizing report used to check the heat pump against your home’s heating and cooling needs. The signature certifies that you have received it and are satisfied the system will meet those needs.

A heat-pump consultation is encouraged but optional.
