Tirol wind measurement grant
Individuals and legal entities can receive 50% of wind measurement, planning and data-analysis costs for a wind-power project above 250 kW in Tirol, up to €50,000 per site.
Questa opportunità è attualmente disponibile in inglese.
Land Tirol helps you assess a potential wind-power site by paying part of the cost of measuring wind, planning the measurement and analysing wind data. The grant is a one-off payment covering 50% of eligible costs, up to €50,000 for a project at one site. The minimum investment is €10,000.
Applications are available in 2026, with a final application date of 31 December 2026. Complete applications are considered in the order received, while budget remains. There is no entitlement to funding. The rules also allow retrospective applications for the period from 1 August 2024.
Payment follows the final cost statement and proof that the invoices have been paid. Send the completed wind measurements to the Water, Forestry and Energy Law Department; Land Tirol reserves the right to use the results freely.
Eligibility
All natural and legal persons may apply. The measurement must concern a planned wind-power installation with capacity more than 250 kW in Tirol.
You need the affected landowners’ consent and all necessary permits, such as aviation, nature-conservation or forestry permits. Measurements in areas protected under Tirol’s nature-conservation or national-park laws are excluded, including nature reserves, protected landscapes, Natura 2000 areas, quiet areas, nature parks and protected landscape sections. Sites within the influence area of earthquake monitoring stations or seismic installations are also excluded.
A qualified and authorised company, office or association must carry out the measurements. Record wind-speed time series at intervals no longer than 10 minutes, including mean, maximum, minimum and standard deviation. If you use several measuring instruments, at least one measurement must run for at least one year.
The general funding rules require a need for public support despite reasonable contributions of your own. The project must be financially viable and must not cause your insolvency. Funding must be limited to what is necessary, with economical and effective use of public money.
Businesses with an outstanding recovery order for incompatible EU State aid cannot receive the grant. Businesses or groups that meet the EU General Block Exemption Regulation’s “undertaking in difficulty” test are also excluded. That test includes insolvency proceedings or meeting the national conditions for creditors to open them; rescue aid whose loan remains unpaid or guarantee remains in force, or an active restructuring plan after restructuring aid; and loss of more than half of subscribed capital or recorded own funds, depending on legal form. The capital-loss tests exempt SMEs less than three years old. For a business that is not an SME, the test also applies if, in each of the last two years, its debt-to-equity ratio exceeded 7.5 and its EBITDA interest-cover ratio was below 1.0: its earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation did not cover interest costs.
For economic activities, this is de minimis aid, a form of public business support with a cumulative limit. Aid from Austria to a single undertaking must not exceed €300,000 over any rolling three-year period. Enterprises linked through majority voting rights, control of management appointments or dominant influence count together, including indirect links. Include relevant earlier aid in your declaration.
The governing regulation excludes aid for primary agricultural production and primary fishery or aquaculture production, and certain price- or quantity-linked aid for processing and marketing these products. It also excludes aid for agricultural processing or marketing that must be passed to primary producers, export-linked aid, and aid conditional on domestic rather than imported goods or services. A business with excluded and eligible activities may receive support for the eligible activity only if activities or accounts are separated so the excluded activity does not benefit. Combining aid for the same costs must not exceed the applicable State-aid limit.

Download the 2026 application form and email the completed application to wasser.forst.energierecht@tirol.gv.at, the Water, Forestry and Energy Law Department of the Tirol regional government office, by 31 December 2026. Attach landowner consent, required permit decisions, and the authorised contractor’s quote or an existing invoice.
Describe the project and provide the requested de minimis declaration. Under the incorporated general rules, applications for more than €5,000 in grant funding also need a financing plan showing total costs, your contributions, own funds and other requested or confirmed subsidies. Legal entities must provide proof of legal existence and the signatory’s authority unless already known to the office, plus the current-year budget and latest audited annual accounts.
The written award may contain conditions and deadlines. Submit the final invoice statement and payment receipts for payment, and send the wind data after measurement is completed. You must consent to the programme’s specified data processing to receive funding.
Use the money for the approved purpose and provide the required evidence within the specified period. The general rules provide additional financial reporting for grants above €5,000, including an income-and-expenditure account with an asset statement and audited accounts for the approval year, with a documented exception possible in especially justified cases. Allow the regional administration and audit office to inspect funding documents. Repayment with interest can be required for late proof of use, knowingly false or incomplete information, unmet conditions or deadlines, or a change in the funded purpose found during an inspection of a private association.
