Building insulation grant

Canton ZugSvizzera3K CHF e oltre

Grants help building owners in the canton of Zug insulate older buildings, with an additional payment when eligible roof or facade insulation is combined with solar panels.

Questa opportunità è attualmente disponibile in inglese.

This entry covers the insulation route within the canton’s energy funding programme. It pays CHF 60 per square metre of eligible insulated building surface. Installing solar panels at the same time on the insulated roof or facade adds another CHF 60 per square metre of that insulated surface. To qualify for the bonus, panels must cover at least 20% of the insulated facade or 50% of the insulated pitched or flat roof.

The minimum grant is CHF 3,000 per application. The grant cannot exceed 50% of the total investment or the amount promised in the approval letter. Payment follows completion and verification of the work; there is no legal entitlement to funding and awards depend on the annual budget remaining available.

Eligibility

  • The building must be in the canton of Zug and have received its legally effective building permit before 1 January 2000. Owners or their representatives apply. Submit one application per federal building identifier (EGID); close an existing insulation application for the same building before submitting another.
  • Eligible surfaces adjoin parts of the building that were heated before renovation. External insulation of an unheated attic or cellar also qualifies if the adjoining storey is heated. New extensions and additional storeys, windows, internal surfaces adjoining unheated rooms, balcony coverings, canopies, walls between balconies, projecting walls and partition walls are excluded.
  • The U-value measures heat passing through a building surface; a lower value means less heat loss. After insulation, it must be at most 0.20 W/(m²K) for surfaces facing outside or buried up to two metres deep, 0.25 W/(m²K) for surfaces deeper than two metres underground, and 0.15 W/(m²K) for every flat roof. The surface must not already meet the relevant limit, and the improvement must be at least 0.07 W/(m²K). Existing insulation must be documented. For protected buildings or surfaces, a limit of 0.30 W/(m²K) is possible if the cantonal heritage and archaeology office confirms the applicant’s evidence that the normal limits cannot be achieved.
  • From an expected CHF 10,000 grant per application, include a GEAK Plus: the cantonal building energy certificate with an advisory report. For building categories for which a GEAK Plus cannot be produced, include the building analysis with recommendations required by the Swiss Federal Office of Energy’s specifications.
  • Federal and directly cantonal public buildings are excluded. Municipal buildings are eligible, as are institutions funded fully or partly through a fixed cantonal budget allocation (Globalkredit) where the cantonal government or parliament has no direct influence. Work at company sites with a CO₂ Act reduction obligation, including CO₂ levy exemption, or participation in emissions trading is excluded.
  • Work must meet current technical standards. You must allow authorised inspectors access to the funded installations and related documents. Grants obtained through false or incomplete information, used for a different purpose, or awarded without the required conditions being met must be repaid with interest. Paid grants are reported to the cantonal tax administration.

  • Submit the complete signed application and documents before construction starts. Funding depends on the remaining annual budget.

Apply through the Building Programme’s Zug portal before construction starts. Print and sign the generated form and send it with the required documents to the Zug processing office, Effienergie AG, Neugasse 10, 8005 Zürich (zug@dasgebaeudeprogramm.ch; 041 723 63 75). The email receipt date or postal postmark determines submission and the applicable rates and conditions. An incomplete application counts as not submitted. Starting after submission but before written approval is at your own risk.

Include a site plan, current building and surface photographs, quotations, surface-area calculations, and before-and-after U-value calculations with existing layers identified. Document existing insulation; if it cannot be identified precisely, use a thermal conductivity value (lambda) of no more than 0.05 W/mK in the calculations. Include the energy assessment from CHF 10,000, the signed heritage confirmation if claiming that exception, and a solar quotation, coverage proof and module data sheet if requesting the bonus.

After the work, complete the closure through the same portal and submit the signed completion form, invoice copies identifying insulation materials, thickness and area, up to ten photographs, changed area or U-value calculations where applicable, and payment details. These documents must reach Effienergie AG within two years of the grant approval. Request and justify any extension in writing. Payment follows the office’s checks.
