KlimaFonds
Grants help nonprofit initiatives and associations run public climate-action events in Göttingen.
Denne finansieringsmuligheten er foreløpig beskrevet på engelsk.
The retained Module 1 route supports one-off events, recurring activities and event series about climate protection or adapting to climate change. Eligible expenses include room hire, external speakers, equipment rental, permits, publicity and event materials. Purchases can be included only alongside an event; they must be publicly accessible, display the city's funding and remain in the applicant's possession and use for at least three years.
The earmarked grant does not normally need to be repaid if you meet its conditions. It covers 80 % of eligible necessary expenditure, between €50 and €1, 500. The calculation uses gross costs, but applicants entitled to recover input VAT must exclude that recoverable VAT in the financial statement. You cannot count unpaid work towards your own contribution. Disclose project income: it reduces planned and approved funding, and the project must not make a profit from the grant. The wider fund also limits support per funding object across modules to €20, 000 over five years, starting in the first application year and ending after the fourth following year.
Eligibility
- Applicants must be nonprofit legal entities under private or public law, including initiatives and associations, whose activities focus on Göttingen. The event must take place within the city. Funds must serve tax-privileged nonprofit purposes directly and exclusively. You need the practical expertise and functioning organisation to manage the project properly. Companies are excluded.
- The event must be publicly accessible and advertised. Its planning must consider lasting benefit, regional relevance, an example others can follow, wider reach and possible participation by other groups.
- Excluded costs include completed actions, institutional running support, staff costs or fees paid to the recipient or its members, catering, statutory duties, credit-financed projects, academic-degree work, and organising or supporting strikes or demonstrations. Projects eligible for EU, federal or Lower Saxony programmes must be applied for there as a priority.
- Where combining funding is permitted, comply with the other programmes' rules and disclose other applications immediately. Combined support cannot exceed eligible costs. If combined funding exceeds 60 % of supported investment costs, notify each funder; support must be reduced to 60 % and excess amounts already received repaid.
- Agree publicity with the city before publication. Use its Gö Goes Green logo and the acknowledgement “Gefördert durch die Stadt Göttingen”, and supply a copy of publicity materials. The city may require additional public acknowledgement and publish reports/results; publication entails transferring usage and author rights to the city free of charge for noncommercial purposes.
- If the city determines sustainable event management applies, use its checklist during planning and submit it with your accounts. It covers management, fair work, inclusion/accessibility, materials, catering, waste and travel. Aim for at least 50 % of points available after justified relevance adjustments. Minimum criteria should be met, with plausible exceptions explained: fair working conditions, accessibility as a basic goal, reusable products instead of single-use plastic, no meat from intensive farming or fish from threatened stocks where catering is relevant, waste prevention and infrastructure for climate-friendly travel. Partial achievement scores half points; irrelevant fields reduce the available total.
- Buy economically: normally invite at least three suppliers; direct awards up to €3, 000 excluding VAT are permitted with economy and efficiency. Inventory funded items costing more than €410 excluding VAT. Report changes to the purpose or eligibility immediately and permit audits. Keep grant records for five years after submitting the payment claim, longer where another law requires. Breaches or false information can lead to partial or full revocation; improperly paid money must be repaid, with interest at five percentage points above the statutory base rate. Notify the city immediately of additional public applications/awards or third-party funds, a reduction in eligible expenditure or financing change of more than 7.5% or €10,000, an endangered project purpose, or funded inventory no longer used or needed for the project during its binding period.

- Module1 public climate actions by nonprofit initiatives and associations; subject to available municipal funds.
Use the current initiatives application form and apply before the event and before entering delivery or service contracts or placing purchase orders. Obtaining quotations is allowed. Complete the project description, timetable and cost/financing plan. Send the signed original to Stadt Göttingen, Referat 07 – KlimaFonds, Hiroshimaplatz 1– 4, 37083 Göttingen. Supporting documents may be emailed to klimafonds@goettingen.de. Include nonprofit evidence, such as your constitution, and tax-exemption evidence; public-law corporations and institutions are exempt from the latter. The form allows reference to those documents already supplied within the past two years.
Applications are accepted from 1 June 2026 while funds remain. There is no entitlement to funding: complete, decision-ready postal applications take priority in order of receipt. The approved grant cannot later be increased. The city confirms receipt, requests any missing documents and sends its decision by post. Follow that decision's conditions and agree publicity before carrying out the event.
After the event, send the signed original payment request by post by the end of the third calendar month following the event month; the city allows extensions in exceptional cases. Include an activity/publicity report, invoices, proof of payment from the account receiving the grant, and the completed sustainability checklist where applicable. Self-issued receipts are not accepted. Supporting PDF documents may be emailed. The city checks the claim and pays within six weeks after issuing the settlement.
