PV battery storage grant

Land TirolØsterrikeinntil 1k EUR

A grant for households, businesses and associations in Tirol to add or expand battery storage for an existing solar PV system.

Denne finansieringsmuligheten er foreløpig beskrevet på engelsk.

Add a stationary lithium-ion or sodium-ion battery to a solar PV system that is already installed and producing electricity. The storage helps you use more of your own solar electricity and reduce pressure on the grid.

The grant pays €100 per kWh of usable storage capacity, up to €1,000 for the first 10 kWh. A new battery may be larger, but funding stops at that limit. If you expand an existing battery, its total usable capacity after expansion must be no more than 10 kWh.

Funding remains subject to the available budget. The general state-grant rules require the support to be necessary even after reasonable contributions of your own, and the project must not make you insolvent.

Eligibility

  • You may apply as a natural or legal person, including a business or association. Your main residence or business registered office must be at the installation site, and the work must take place in Tirol.
  • The battery must meet current technical standards and be installed correctly by an authorised professional. Self-installation is excluded. It must work with a commercially available inverter that has controls for scheduled charging, so the storage can be operated to support the grid.
  • Construction and commissioning must take place after 1 January 2026. Apply only after the system is commissioned.
  • Only one storage system per site and one application per storage system are allowed. You cannot receive this grant for a system for which other Tirol state or federal funding has been applied for or awarded. Municipal grants and contributions from energy suppliers are exceptions.

For applicants carrying out an economic activity, the grant is de minimis aid under Regulation (EU) 2023/2831. This means it counts towards the €300,000 limit on de minimis aid awarded in Austria over any rolling three-year period. Enterprises linked through majority voting rights, majority board appointment rights, contractual or constitutional dominant influence, or an agreement giving majority voting control count together as a single undertaking; indirect links also count.

That regulation excludes aid for primary agricultural, fishery and aquaculture production, such as growing crops, raising livestock, catching fish or farming aquatic organisms. It also excludes aid for processing or marketing fishery or aquaculture products when the aid is based on the price or quantity purchased or marketed. For agricultural processing or marketing, the exclusion applies when aid is based on the price or quantity bought from primary producers or marketed by the business, or when aid must be passed on to primary producers. Aid directly linked to export quantities, setting up or running an export distribution network, or other current export costs is excluded, as is aid conditional on using domestic rather than imported goods or services. A business with excluded and eligible activities can receive aid for the eligible activities only if they are separated, for example through separate accounts, so excluded activities do not benefit.

How to apply

Status
Løpende søknader
Vilkår for søknadsrunden
  • Construction and commissioning must take place after 1 January 2026; apply after commissioning.
  • Grant payment depends on remaining budget funds.

After commissioning, use Land Tirol’s official application page to open the electronic form. The Water, Forestry and Energy Law Department handles the application.

Attach the professional installer’s declaration with the commissioning date, the final invoice and proof of payment, and the installation document for a Type A PV generating plant (800 W–250 kW). That document must confirm compliance with EU Regulation 2016/631, the applicable national grid-connection rules and the requirements in your grid-access contract. The invoice must come from an authorised company and be addressed to you; all submitted documents must name the applicant.

Provide evidence of any official permits needed for the project.

Legal persons must also provide proof of legal existence and the representative’s authority unless already known to the authority, plus the current financial-year budget and latest audited annual accounts. You must consent to the data processing needed to administer the grant.

Download the signed receipt after submitting. The department checks eligibility and may ask you to complete the application within a set period. Payment relies on the completed application and supporting payment documents. Follow any conditions or deadlines in the written funding decision and allow the state administration and audit office to inspect grant-related records; private associations must consent to checks of the funded purpose.

You must repay the grant with interest if you miss the required deadline for proving its proper use, knowingly obtain it through false or incomplete information, or fail to meet conditions, requirements or deadlines. For private associations, a change of funded purpose discovered in an audit is also a repayment trigger. Land Tirol publishes grant information with specified personal data for two years under its transparency rules.
