Boiler Upgrade Scheme

OfgemEngeland, Wales

An upfront grant for property owners replacing fossil-fuel or electric heating with an eligible heat pump or, in limited cases, a biomass boiler in England or Wales.

Deze mogelijkheid is momenteel in het Engels beschikbaar.

The grant is deducted from the installer’s quote. It provides £7,500 for an air-to-water or ground-source heat pump, £2,500 for an air-to-air heat pump in a residential property, or £5,000 for a biomass boiler. An eligible off-gas-grid property replacing oil or LPG heating can receive £9,000 for an air-to-water or ground-source heat pump until 31 March 2027.

Eligibility

  • The property must be residential or non-residential and located in England or Wales. Air-to-air heat pumps are only eligible in residential properties.
  • New-build properties are excluded, except qualifying self-builds. Social housing and a property that has already received government or Energy Company Obligation funding for the same installation are excluded.
  • The system must replace fossil-fuel or electric heating, meet the whole property’s relevant heating needs and meet the programme’s technical standards. It cannot replace an existing low-carbon system, and hybrid heat pumps are excluded.
  • A biomass boiler is only eligible at a rural property that is off the gas grid; it must provide space and water heating as a standalone system.

Choose an installer certified under the Microgeneration Certification Scheme. The installer applies to Ofgem for you and must show the grant as an upfront discount. Ofgem then contacts you to confirm your consent and eligibility. After approval, the installer normally has three months to complete the work, or six months for a ground-source heat pump.
