Attic insulation rebate
Get up to $500 toward attic insulation improvements for an existing single-family home you own and heat with Charlottesville Gas.

The rebate helps cover attic insulation improvements that reduce heating and cooling energy use. It reimburses up to $500 of the insulation improvement cost for work installed between 10 February 2025 and 30 June 2027.
Rebates are available on a first-come basis. Funding and programme rules can change or end without notice, and the Department of Utilities may verify completed work before paying the rebate.
Eligibility
- You must own the home or rental property and be in good credit standing with the City of Charlottesville. The property must be an existing single-family home heated primarily with natural gas; a natural gas fireplace does not qualify as the primary heat source.
- Garages and new construction are excluded. A licensed contractor must install the insulation; self-installation does not qualify.
- Only one attic insulation rebate is available per property address. Dealers and contractors cannot receive their customer’s rebate.
- Insulation installed through the no-cost home weatherization programme is excluded.
- All work must follow the applicable permitting and inspection procedures in Charlottesville or Albemarle County.

After installation, complete the rebate request form and attach an invoice showing the existing and added insulation R-values, the square footage covered, and an itemized insulation cost. R-value is the insulation rating to report for the existing insulation and the added layer.
Email the form and documents to gasmarketing@charlottesville.gov or mail them to Gas Marketing, Department of Utilities, 305 4th St NW, Charlottesville, VA 22903. The department may inspect completed work before payment.
