Green roof grant
Individuals and legal entities can receive 25% of eligible costs to create a permanent green roof on a new or existing building in Feldkirch.
Esta oportunidade está atualmente disponível em inglês.
The grant supports permanent planted roofs as a climate-adaptation measure. Both extensive and intensive roof greening qualify.
If a suitable specialist company does the work, eligible costs cover planning and/or construction, including materials above the roof waterproofing layer. If you plan or build the roof yourself, only materials above that layer qualify. DIY installation following a company's design must follow its plans.
The city pays a one-time grant of 25% of eligible costs, up to €2,000. If you also install a solar system on the greened area, the ceiling rises to €2,500. The solar system's planning and construction costs are excluded. Greening and solar use must be coordinated so both function equally well.
Payment comes after completion and submission of the required evidence, subject to available funds. There is no legal entitlement to a grant.
Eligibility
- You may apply as an individual or a legal entity. Public-sector legal bodies are excluded. The building must be within Feldkirch's municipal boundaries.
- The permanent roof greening must be installed from 1 January 2026 onward, on a new or existing building. Work ordered by an authority is excluded.
- The roof must be professionally planned and installed, including when you do the work yourself. The greened area must be at least 16 m². The growing layer must be at least 8 cm deep on an existing building or 12 cm on a new building.
- The project must be capable of achieving its stated purpose and comply with ecological principles. Knowingly false information excludes funding.
Keep the green roof for at least 15 years. If you culpably remove it earlier, you must repay the full grant. Repayment is also required for knowingly false application details, use of funds for a different purpose, or culpable failure to meet award conditions. The city may charge interest from payment until repayment at the Austrian National Bank's applicable reference rate, with a minimum of 0.5%.
The city can inspect the roof and request further information and documents. Grants up to €5,000 are exempt from the general rules' automatic execution report and overall financing proof, but you must provide information on how funds were used if asked. These exemptions do not remove the roof-specific evidence required with your application. A written award can include conditions and time limits, and amounts owed to the city or its institutions can be offset against the grant.
