Green roof grant
A grant towards green-roof materials for homeowners, tenants and owners’ associations in Heemstede.
Esta oportunidade está atualmente disponível em inglês.
Install a green roof on an existing roof in Heemstede, either yourself or through a contractor. The roof must have a substrate layer—a growing medium—and permanent vegetation. The grant covers materials such as plants and the layers beneath them. Labour and building or adapting the roof structure are excluded.
The grant covers 50% of material costs, up to €25 per square metre. The area limit rises to €35 per square metre when at least 50% of the green roof has plants other than sedum, such as grasses and herbs, adding value for biodiversity. Individuals can receive up to €1,000 per application. An owners’ association (VvE) can receive up to €1,000 per address and €5,000 in total. If you receive other grants for the roof, combined grants cannot exceed the actual installation costs.
Eligibility
- You must be a homeowner, tenant or owners’ association in Heemstede. A tenant must have the landlord’s consent. An owners’ association must include at least two participating addresses.
- The green roof must be installed on an existing roof; a roof still to be built is excluded. Repair or restoration of an existing green roof is excluded.
- Only one grant application is allowed per address. The installation date on the invoice must fall in the period from 1 January to 1 December 2026.

- Apply after installation. The invoice installation date and claim must be within the regulation’s period from 1 January to 1 December 2026; complete both before 1 December.[^c5][^c6]
- The 2026 budget is €20,000, allocated in receipt order of complete applications.[^c3]
Buy the materials and finish installing the roof before applying. Submit the municipal online form using DigiD or eHerkenning; applications by email, post or another channel are not accepted. The regulation allows claims from 1 January to 1 December 2026; complete both installation and application before 1 December to meet that boundary.
Include your address, a photo of the finished roof, the material invoice and details of other grants received or expected. For the higher area limit, provide an invoice or other written evidence of the non-sedum plants. Tenants must add the landlord’s consent declaration. An owners’ association must list all participating addresses and identify its contact person.
The municipality has €20,000 available for 2026 and allocates it in the order complete applications arrive. Payment is subject to that available budget. The municipality decides within eight weeks of receiving a complete application and may extend that period once by up to four weeks.
