Heating grant for private owners – residential buildings

KfWAlemanha

A 30–80% grant for private owners replacing heating or connecting an existing German home to a building or district heat network.

Esta oportunidade está atualmente disponível em inglês.

Fund efficient heating such as a heat pump, solar thermal system, biomass boiler or fuel cell, or connect the home to a building or district heat network. Eligible costs can include specialist planning, installation-related work and temporary heating after a breakdown.

The basic grant is 30% of eligible costs. Bonuses can raise the total to 80%, depending on self-occupation, the old heating being replaced, household taxable income and whether a qualifying child lives in the home. For applications before 1 February 2027, the eligible-cost limit starts at €28,000 for the first dwelling, with separate amounts for further dwellings. The first-dwelling limit then falls by €750 every 1 February and 1 August.

Eligibility

Private owners can apply for rented as well as owner-occupied single-family homes.

You can apply as a private registered owner of a German single-family or multi-family home, as an apartment owner replacing heating within your own unit, or through a condominium owners' association for shared heating. A civil-law partnership or legal entity registered as owner must use the business product instead. A person who only holds a usufruct right cannot apply.

The building application or notification must be at least five years old. The project must improve energy efficiency or the renewable share of final energy use, and installation must include optimization of the whole heat-distribution system. Self-built, prototype and materially used installations are excluded.

  • Apply before work starts; support depends on available federal budget and is not a legal entitlement.

First appoint an eligible energy-efficiency expert or heating contractor to prepare the confirmation for application (BzA). Sign a supply or service contract that already makes performance conditional on KfW approval and states the planned completion date. Then apply yourself through “Meine KfW” before work starts, using the 15-digit BzA ID.
