Sustainability consultancy grant
Small and medium-sized businesses operating in Västerbotten can receive a grant for external consultancy on energy audits, circular business models and replacing fossil energy or transport.

Hållbarhetschecken pays for external expertise to develop sustainability work in your own business. Climate-related uses include an energy audit, exploring a circular business model and setting goals to phase out oil, coal or natural gas in favour of renewable energy or transport.
The grant covers up to 75% of approved consultancy costs, with a maximum award of SEK 150,000. SEK 200,000 in approved costs gives the maximum award at the full rate. Region Västerbotten may award a lower percentage; meeting the requirements does not guarantee support.
You pay the costs first and request reimbursement afterwards through Min ansökan. Supply an expenditure schedule, invoices and proof that your business paid them.
Eligibility
- Your business must qualify as small or medium-sized, including its corporate group, operate in Västerbotten and have at least one full-time employee. The work must contribute to sustainable growth in Västerbotten.
- The consultancy must develop sustainability in your own business and fall outside normal operations. The consultant needs documented knowledge and experience relevant to the work.
- Agriculture and fishing businesses, businesses clearly able to carry out the work without support, leadership training and general sustainability events such as a kickoff are normally excluded.
- Pay and employment benefits must follow a collective agreement or be equivalent to the industry’s collective-agreement terms. The activity must be assessed as capable of becoming profitable and providing lasting employment. Businesses with Swedish tax or fee debts at Kronofogden, in liquidation or bankrupt cannot receive this support.

Apply to Region Västerbotten through the product’s Min ansökan application, using BankID. Include a current registration certificate, consultant quotations and a power of attorney if someone other than an authorised signatory signs. Describe the planned work and disclose other support applied for or granted for the same costs.
The award is de minimis aid, a category of public support governed by EU aid rules. Declare all other de minimis aid granted to your business over the latest three-year period, including awards not yet paid.
Region Västerbotten must receive your application before you start or order the work. Once the region confirms receipt, you may start at your own risk while awaiting its decision. Approved work must normally be completed within one year.
Follow the award conditions and provide information for monitoring when requested. Payment must be withheld wholly or partly if you caused an incorrect or excessive award by providing incorrect information or otherwise, if you should reasonably have recognised another award error, if the support is not used or is expected not to be used for its approved purpose, or if conditions are breached. These grounds also require repayment and recovery of paid support. Interest runs from one month after the recovery decision at the state lending rate plus two percentage points; the recovery claim or interest may be reduced for special reasons.
