Energy grants
Grants help residents, locally established legal entities and local property owners install photovoltaic panels in Plan-les-Ouates.
Această oportunitate este disponibilă momentan în limba engleză.
The municipal energy-aid programme supports renewable energy and energy savings. This page covers photovoltaic panels on existing or new buildings.
The grant depends on installed peak capacity, measured in kilowatts-peak (kWp):
- Up to 10 kWp: CHF 150 per kWp.
- Between 10 and 30 kWp: CHF 500 plus CHF 100 per kWp.
- Above 30 kWp: CHF 2,375 plus CHF 37.50 per kWp. The ordinary grant is capped at CHF 5,000. If the panels are manufactured in Switzerland or Europe, the calculated grant doubles, with a CHF 10,000 cap.
The municipal grant cannot exceed 50% of the work or action cost. You may combine it with federal, cantonal or other aid, but all aid together cannot exceed 50% of the value of the funded installation.
Payment follows approval of the final account, within 60 days. Support obtained improperly, through misleading information, or used for another purpose must be returned within five years after the facts become known.
Eligibility
You must meet at least one of these conditions:
- Be an individual legally resident in Plan-les-Ouates.
- Be a legal entity with its registered office or a branch in the municipality.
- Be an individual or legal entity owning a building or installation in the municipality. The funded installation must be in Plan-les-Ouates.
Photovoltaic panels on existing and new buildings qualify. Panels installed as a mandatory measure connected to a construction or renovation permit to obtain an energy label are excluded. Works already started before the application, routine maintenance, insulation and window replacement are also excluded.
Funding is limited to the voted municipal budget. Complete, dated and signed applications are processed in order of arrival; a dossier number establishes priority but does not guarantee a grant. If funds run out and additional credit is proposed, pending applications may be suspended; they are rejected if the credit is refused.
How to apply

- Apply before works, opening the site or equipment delivery. Funding depends on the multiannual municipal budget.
Download the photovoltaic application form and send the complete, dated and signed dossier to the Municipality's Service Construction et Aménagement, Case postale 17, 1228 Plan-les-Ouates, or email technique@plan-les-ouates.ch. Include the supplier or contractor offer, building permit or permit application, installation specifications and a copy of your identity card. A representative must attach the mandate. The municipality can request further documents. Where the same installation receives federal, cantonal or third-party aid, a copy of that dossier and award decision can serve as the municipal application dossier.
Apply before works begin: opening the site or delivering equipment counts as starting. Normally, wait for acknowledgement of the complete dossier and a dossier number before starting. The municipality strongly recommends waiting for the award decision: once works have started, an ineligible project cannot be corrected with supplements or a fresh application; the same applies to changes beyond minor alterations. Only a signed municipal award letter confirms the grant, subject to any required building permit.
The award is valid for 18 months from receipt of the positive decision. Before it expires, submit the signed completion attestation and required invoices, proof of payment, commissioning records, confirmation of completed works for high-energy-performance buildings and effective building permit where applicable. An exceptional extension requires a reasoned written request before expiry. Separately, submit the detailed final invoice, proof of payment and any applicable completion report within three months of finishing the works, otherwise the award lapses. Cost overruns do not increase the award; lower costs can reduce it.
Allow inspections and supply requested information. Report ownership changes during the award's validity. If works have been completed, transfer of the grant to the new owner requires their written request as soon as the ownership change is known; otherwise the application lapses.
Applying authorizes municipal use of the dossier and your identity in sustainability communications. In communications and oral or written presentations about the funded project, acknowledge municipal support with the required wording: « Ce projet a bénéficié d’un soutien financier pour le développement durable de la commune de Plan-les-Ouates. ».
