Building insulation grant

Canton SchwyzElveția3–300 K CHF

Grants help private building owners insulate older buildings in Canton Schwyz, with an additional bonus for extensive facade and roof renovation.

Această oportunitate este disponibilă momentan în limba engleză.

This entry covers professionally carried out insulation of privately owned buildings through the cantonal energy programme. You can fund eligible facade, roof, wall and floor surfaces against the ground. The base grant is CHF 60 per m² of eligible insulated area, with a CHF 3,000 minimum and CHF 300,000 maximum per application. It cannot exceed 50% of the total investment, and payment cannot exceed the committed amount.

If at least 90% of the building’s facade and roof main surfaces meet the insulation requirements, you can apply separately for the comprehensive renovation bonus alongside the base application. It adds CHF 40 per m² of eligible facade and roof insulation, up to CHF 300,000 for the bonus. Walls and floors against the ground are excluded from the 90% test. The base grant and bonus together cannot exceed 50% of total investment costs.

From CHF 10,000 in expected base insulation funding, you need a current GEAK Plus report: a building energy assessment with an energy label, savings goals, renovation alternatives and their costs and economics. It covers housing, offices, schools, hotels, retail, restaurants and mixed-use buildings. For a building type that cannot receive GEAK Plus, submit a preliminary building analysis with recommended next steps following the Swiss Federal Office of Energy specification.

Eligibility

  • Your building must be in Canton Schwyz, and its legally effective building permit must date from before 2000. This account covers ordinary privately owned buildings; the programme also has other measures and special rules for protected and public buildings.
  • Insulate surfaces bordering parts that were heated before renovation. Outer insulation of an unheated attic or cellar can qualify if the adjoining storey is heated. Windows, doors, cellar ceilings, attic floors and walls against unheated rooms do not qualify. Neither do canopies, balcony projections, insulation intended to save industrial/process energy, or surfaces that must meet the cantonal energy rules’ new-building limits (MuKEn).
  • New extensions, added storeys and replacement buildings do not qualify. If heated volume increases, only retained surfaces that still face outdoors count. Identical demolition and reconstruction of a roof or floor against the ground is an exception. For facades, reveal-only and roller-shutter-box-only insulation is excluded; for roofs, the counted area depends on whether insulation is between or above the rafters, and excludes the canopy.
  • A U-value measures how much heat passes through a building part: a lower value means less heat loss. After renovation it must be no more than 0.20 W/m²K for surfaces facing outdoors or ground up to 2 metres deep, or 0.25 W/m²K for surfaces deeper in the ground. The existing surface must not already meet the required value, and the improvement must be at least 0.07 W/m²K. Supply calculations for existing and planned layers and evidence of existing insulation.
  • Submit one application per EGID, the federal building identifier. Close an existing application for the same measure before applying again for that building.
  • Sites of companies exempt from the CO₂ levy and installations required by energy-law obligations are excluded. You cannot assign the funded emissions reductions to a third party; Canton Schwyz claims them. Works must comply with the applicable legal requirements.

You must allow the canton’s appointed inspectors to access funded installations and related records. Wrongfully obtained funding must be repaid with interest, including where information was false or incomplete, money was used for another purpose, or funding conditions were not met. The energy office reports paid grants to the cantonal tax authority. Landlords must pass on grant-related investment savings to tenants and deduct the grant when calculating rent increases.

How to apply

Condițiile sesiunii de finanțare
  • Apply before construction starts. Awards depend on the remaining annual budget.

Create your application in the Gebäudeprogramm portal, then sign the generated PDF and post the complete application with its required attachments to the Prüfstelle. Do this before construction starts; the postmark determines submission and the applicable rates and conditions. Missing documents mean the application counts as not submitted. Starting after submission but before approval is at your own risk.

Include a site plan, current photographs, quotations, measured areas, existing and planned U-value calculations, proof of existing insulation, and the GEAK Plus report or specified building analysis where required. The optional renovation bonus needs its own signed application and proof of the 90% facade-and-roof coverage.

Finish the funded works within two years of receiving grant approval and send the signed completion form, invoices, photos and changed area or U-value calculations before the deadline. Request any extension in writing with reasons. The committed base award cannot be increased; additional surfaces can be registered before construction within the same calendar year under the existing application.

New applications can currently be started through the portal. Awards depend on the annual budget and are not a legal entitlement. For programme or application-status questions, contact the cantonal energy office at energie@sz.ch or 041 819 20 35.
