Green home improvement loan
Borrow for insulation, heat pumps, solar panels and other energy improvements to your home as a member of the local credit union.
Această oportunitate este disponibilă momentan în limba engleză.
The loan covers work that improves your home’s energy efficiency and its Building Energy Rating (BER), the rating of its energy performance. Eligible work includes insulation, window and door upgrades, heating controls, boiler upgrades, heat pumps, solar panels and ventilation systems.
You can borrow up to €150,000 at the advertised interest rate of 6.9% (7.12% APR, the annual percentage rate), repaid over 1–10 years. Repayments are tailored to your circumstances. The credit union states there are no administration fees, transaction costs or early repayment fees, and loan insurance comes at no direct cost to the member.
You must repay the loan. You can increase repayments or make lump-sum payments to reduce the balance early without penalties. Missed repayments put the account into arrears and may affect your credit rating and future access to credit.
Eligibility
- You must be a South Dublin Credit Union member. You can join if you live, work or study in Stillorgan, Donnybrook, Mount Merrion, Leopardstown, Sandyford, The Beacon, Goatstown, Murphystown or surrounding areas. New members can join and apply for a loan on the same day.
- Membership requires photographic identification, proof of your home address dated within the last three months or evidence of your work or study address where applicable, and proof of your PPS number, your Irish personal public service number. You must hold at least five shares (€5 in savings) when joining.
- Provide a builder’s or contractor’s quote confirming that the planned home works meet the improved energy-efficiency criteria.
- Loan approval depends on your ability to repay, rather than the amount of your savings or how long you have been a member. Applications are assessed individually. The credit union verifies your information, assesses creditworthiness and conducts credit-register searches.
- The credit union may require security, such as a charge over your property or other personal assets that it can enforce to recover unpaid debt. It may also require a guarantor, someone who may have to repay your debt if you fall behind on repayments.
- The credit union can take steps to recover the debt or enforce any security taken for the loan. Savings used as loan security are not freely accessible while pledged.
