Climate investment loan (293)

KfWGermanyup to 25m EUR

Loans of up to €25 million per project for climate-technology production, lower-carbon industrial processes or infrastructure. Businesses and self-employed applicants can finance projects in Germany; projects elsewhere in the EU need a specified German company connection.

Under the official programme Klimaschutzoffensive für Unternehmen, you can finance eligible new plant, equipment or modernization under one of three modules. Module A covers production of climate-friendly technologies such as renewable-energy equipment, hydrogen equipment, low-carbon transport technologies, batteries and energy-efficient building components. Module B covers lower-emission production in selected energy-intensive industries. Module C covers infrastructure such as electricity, heating and cooling networks, hydrogen systems, water services and carbon transport or storage.

For investments, the loan covers up to 100% of eligible investment costs, with a normal maximum of €25 million per project. KfW may exceed that ceiling for a project it considers particularly worthy of support. Investment loans can run for up to 20 years. Module A can also finance working capital for up to five years and stock for up to ten years when directly connected with eligible climate-technology production. Your financing partner sets the interest rate according to your financial position and collateral.

Eligibility

  • For a project in Germany, you can apply as a person, legal entity or partnership with majority private ownership when acting commercially or professionally, whether established in Germany or abroad. Majority-municipal legal entities and partnerships acting commercially or professionally can also apply.
  • For a project elsewhere in the EU, the applicant must be a company established in Germany, an EU-based subsidiary of a German company, or an EU joint venture with legal personality and at least 25% material German participation.
  • Companies of any size can qualify. The federal government, German states and their institutions, municipalities, municipal territorial authorities and dependent municipal enterprises are excluded.
  • Your measure must meet the detailed technical minimum requirements for its module. The requirements draw on the part of the EU Taxonomy that defines a substantial contribution to climate mitigation; meeting this programme's rules does not by itself establish full EU Taxonomy compatibility.
  • Apply for a new investment before work starts. Refinancing and extra finance for projects already begun or completed are excluded. Land, buildings and facilities covered by the EU Energy Performance of Buildings Directive are also excluded, along with the programme's other listed exclusions.

Dates not announced

Choose the relevant module and check its technical annex before applying. Complete the electronic commercial confirmation for application, known as the gBzA, either yourself or with your financing partner. Sign it and give it to a bank or savings bank, which submits the loan request to KfW.

Apply through that financing partner before starting the project. Agree collateral with the financing partner. Begin only after KfW has approved the funding and you have concluded the loan agreement.
