Rainwater cistern grant
Property owners can receive up to €5,000 to install their first rainwater-use system for an existing building in Geisenheim.
Esta oportunidade está atualmente disponível em inglês.
Collect rainwater for garden watering, toilet flushing or washing machines while reducing drinking-water use and runoff during heavy rain. The grant supports systems of at least 3 m³ installed as part of modifying the property drainage.
For systems meeting DIN 1989-100, the maximum grant is €2,500 for 3 to less than 5 m³, €4,000 for 5 to less than 10 m³, and €5,000 for a 10 m³ system. Payment cannot exceed your invoiced actual expenditure or the approved grant. Your own labour is excluded.
Funding depends on the annual budget remaining and a discretionary decision by Stadtwerke Geisenheim. There is no legal entitlement.
Eligibility
- You must own the property and install the first rainwater-use system for an existing building within Geisenheim. Only one system per plot can be funded.
- The system must comply with the current municipal drainage statute, technical leaflet, relevant DIN standards and binding technical rules. Competent contractors must carry out construction and installation. City permission is required for connecting the property and discharging wastewater.
- Route the overflow to the property drainage or an infiltration system. Infiltration generally requires permission from the lower water authority; water-protection areas have stricter requirements.
- Protect drainage below street level against sewer backflow, keep the inspection chamber accessible at ground level, and inspect, maintain and repair drainage equipment as needed. You must ensure proper year-round operation of the rainwater system and carry out your own checks.
- For new construction measures with more than 800 m² of effective runoff area, the leaflet limits rainwater discharge to 12 litres per second per hectare and requires a DIN 1986-100 retention-volume calculation with the connection application.

- Applications must be submitted before starting; wait for the grant approval before ordering or purchasing. Funding depends on the available annual budget.
Send the signed application form to Stadtwerke Geisenheim, Rüdesheimer Straße 48, 65366 Geisenheim, before starting. Wait for the written grant approval before ordering or purchasing the system.
The approval sets your maximum grant and project start and end dates. Completion is normally due within 12 months of the start, but the dates in your approval apply. If you cannot prove completion by the required end date, the award automatically lapses and payment entitlement ends.
Submit evidence of the start and completion dates, together with invoices and documents such as photographs and a data sheet showing the installed system and its capacity. Submit an updated declaration of built and paved areas draining rainwater to the sewer. Meet the documentation deadline in your approval, normally three months after completion. Stadtwerke pays after reviewing the documents.
