Energising Small Business grant
Grants for small businesses and nonprofits in Islington to improve energy efficiency at their premises or replace a gas boiler with a heat pump.

You can receive up to £1,500 for energy-saving works, such as LED lighting or equipment upgrades. Replacing a gas boiler with a heat pump can receive up to £5,000. Supply two quotes: the council awards the lower quoted cost, subject to the relevant limit.
Spend the funds and send the council invoices within six months of receiving the money. After you notify the council that the works are complete, an officer visits to check them. You must repay the grant if the works or invoices are not completed within that period, and repay any unspent amount. You pay for ongoing maintenance and must complete a follow-up survey 12 months after the award.
Eligibility
- Your business or nonprofit organisation must be in Islington, have fewer than 50 employees and annual turnover below £10 million. The council requires evidence of staff numbers and turnover before approval.
- Use the grant for your organisation’s premises. Homes where an organisation is based and works needed to meet legal requirements are excluded.
- For the £1,500 grant, measures must reduce energy use by at least 20% and follow good energy and environmental practice. For example, replacement lighting must use at least 20% less energy than the existing lighting.

Apply through the council’s online Energising Small Business grant form. Describe the measures, any additional environmental benefits and what your organisation already does to minimise energy use. Submitting the form means agreeing to its terms.
The council then arranges a premises visit and calculates the potential savings before deciding whether to fund the works.
