Energy Smart rebates
Rebates for Ku-ring-gai households installing solar, efficient appliances and home insulation or improving windows.
Esta oportunidade está atualmente disponível em inglês.
Council offers 50% of cost up to AUD 500 for each eligible solar PV, solar battery, induction cooktop, insulation, window and hot-water upgrade. The pool-pump rebate is AUD 250. Energy Smart rebates total up to AUD 3,000 per household, with claims limited within a five-year period.
Keep the installed equipment in place for at least five years. If any rebate terms are breached within the first five years after receiving the payment, you must repay the rebate.
Eligibility
You must be a Ku-ring-gai resident. Payment goes to the property owner, or to an applicant with the owner’s written permission.
- Purchases and installations must take place after 1 July 2026. Equipment must be new. You must not have received an Energy Smart or pool-pump rebate for the same action at the property in the previous five years. For each of the six AUD 500 measures, the homeowner must also not have applied for that rebate in the last five years. Previous pool-pump rebate recipients cannot apply.
- Solar PV must be a new installation, rather than replacement of an existing system, with at least 5 kW capacity; an addition bringing an existing system to at least 5 kW also qualifies. Solar batteries must connect to a new or existing solar system. Both require a Solar Accreditation Australia accredited installer.
- An induction cooktop must replace gas or ordinary electric cooking equipment.
- A professional must install insulation with minimum R-values of 4.0 for the roof, 2.5 for walls or 2.0 underfloor. R-value is the insulation’s resistance to heat flow; the relevant threshold depends on where you install it.
- Window retrofits are limited to secondary glazing, external shutters or shading devices. Replacement windows must have a combined heating and cooling U-value below 4; this is the window performance threshold specified by Council.
- Hot water must use solar or electric heat-pump technology and replace electric or gas storage or instantaneous equipment.
- Pool pumps must replace a single-speed pump with a multi-speed or variable-speed pump rated at least six energy stars.
- Work required to comply with BASIX building sustainability requirements or a development application is excluded. You must allow Council officers to assess the property or inspect the installation, and endeavour to dispose of replaced equipment responsibly following Council advice.
