Klimabonus residential heat-pump grants
Grants for owners installing qualifying geothermal or air-to-water heat pumps in residential buildings in Luxembourg.
Esta oportunidade está atualmente disponível em inglês.
Klimabonus pays a grant towards buying and installing a qualifying geothermal or air-to-water heat pump in a Luxembourg home, including eligible non-fossil hybrid systems. You can apply for the installation on its own, during a renovation or as part of new construction. Aid is paid once per installation, normally to your bank account.
For a single-family house, the standard geothermal grant is EUR 12,000 when replacing a fossil-fuel boiler or direct electric heating, and EUR 8,000 otherwise. For air-to-water heat pumps in an existing house, the corresponding amounts are EUR 10,000 and EUR 6,000. A new house receives EUR 3,000 for an air-to-water heat pump.
In an apartment building, the standard geothermal grant is EUR 10,000 per dwelling, capped at EUR 50,000 per building. An air-to-water heat pump in an existing apartment building receives EUR 8,000 per dwelling, capped at EUR 24,000; in a new apartment building it receives EUR 2,000 per dwelling, capped at EUR 10,000. For geothermal installations in apartment buildings, whether new or existing, the grant is reduced by EUR 5,000 if no fossil-fuel boiler or existing electric heating is replaced. For air-to-water installations in existing apartment buildings, the EUR 5,000 reduction applies if no fossil-fuel boiler or existing direct electric heating is replaced.
Higher grants apply if you order from 1 January 2026 through 30 June 2027 and the invoice is issued by 31 December 2028. For a single-family house, the geothermal amounts become EUR 14,000 when replacing fossil or direct electric heating and EUR 10,000 otherwise; the existing-house air-to-water amounts become EUR 12,000 and EUR 8,000. In apartment buildings, the geothermal amount becomes EUR 12,000 per dwelling with a EUR 60,000 building cap; the existing-building air-to-water amount becomes EUR 10,000 per dwelling with the EUR 24,000 building cap. For these higher amounts, the EUR 5,000 reduction still applies to geothermal installations in new or existing apartment buildings when no fossil-fuel boiler or existing electric heating is replaced, and to air-to-water installations in existing apartment buildings when no fossil-fuel boiler or existing direct electric heating is replaced.
Replacing an oil boiler in a designated drinking-water protection zone can bring an additional EUR 2,000. Removing, neutralising and recycling its oil tank can bring EUR 1,500, with an invoice from a specialist business. When replacing a fossil-fuel boiler and improving the existing heat-distribution system, the adaptation grant covers up to 50% of actual costs, capped at EUR 2,000 for a single-family house or EUR 5,000 for an apartment building.
From 1 January 2027, invoices issued from that date can instead qualify for optional pre-financing: a registered intermediary company submits through MyGuichet.lu, receives the State grant and deducts its full amount from your price. This route excludes commercial-company investments and leased heat pumps. For heat pumps, the aid plus your deposit must not exceed the final sale price excluding VAT.
Eligibility
- The residential building must be in Luxembourg. Individuals, private-law legal entities and public legal entities other than the State can apply as owners. A group’s legal representative must also belong to that group. The grant is paid to that representative, who must immediately transfer each member’s share to their bank account and send copies of those payments to the Single point of contact for housing assistance. After a sale, the former investing owner may apply if the new owner gives up the aid in their favour.
- For a legal entity carrying out an economic activity, the grant is subject to EU de minimis rules, which limit the total small State-aid awards a business can receive. The application must identify whether the aid is registered for the business or transferred to another recipient; a transfer needs formal proof identifying that recipient.
- Second-hand systems, repairs or replacements of components that cannot operate independently, and installations already subsidised under the 2017 or 2022 scheme are excluded.
- The heat pump must meet the efficiency tests in EN 14511. Its coefficient of performance (COP) measures heat output relative to electricity used: geothermal systems need COP at least 4.3 at the prescribed B0/W35 test, or E4/W35 for direct-expansion systems; air-to-water systems need at least 3.1 at A7/W35. These are the technical test conditions your installer must document. The heating circuit must operate with a maximum supply temperature of 35°C, or meet the required COP threshold at the chosen higher supply temperature.
- Install electricity and heat meters to measure electricity consumed and heat produced, and have the heating circuit hydraulically balanced so the water flow is adjusted across it. In existing homes, the POCH-2026 form requires a buffer tank storing heated water with capacity above 30 litres per kW of thermal power, unless the pump can vary its speed or power.
- A non-fossil hybrid heat pump in an existing home may supplement an existing non-fossil heating system or replace a system with a combined hybrid device. The heat pump must be able to operate alone and supply at least 70% of annual useful heat demand in heat-pump mode.
- Geothermal boreholes require authorization under the water law. Check with the municipality whether a building permit is required.
- For outdoor air-to-water equipment, the labelled sound-power limit is 48 dB(A) at rated power up to 5 kW, 51 dB(A) above 5 and below 12 kW, and 55 dB(A) at 12 kW or more. Guaranteed soundproofing reductions documented in the equipment data may be counted. Alternatively, a noise calculation prepared before installation using the minister’s noise calculator must show no more than 40 dB(A) at the nearest building-site boundary, including any required corrections.
How to apply
- Estado
- Aberto continuamente
- Condições do período de candidaturas
- Apply after completion and no later than four years after 31 December of the invoice year.[^c8][^c9]
- Ordinary heat-pump invoices must date from 1 January 2026 through 31 December 2030.[^c8]
- With an energy-efficiency renovation of an existing building, invoices may run through 31 December 2035, with the four-year application rule and final application deadline of 31 December 2039.[^c8]
- For installation alongside sustainable new construction eligible under the 2017 scheme, the invoice must be issued by 31 December 2029 and the application submitted by 31 December 2031.[^c8]
The commissioning company must request the Chamber of Skilled Trades and Crafts’ heat-pump approval within one month of commissioning. Keep proof of that appointment request for your application.
Apply after the work is complete through MyGuichet.lu or its mobile app using LuxTrust or an electronic identity card. Alternatively, send or hand in the appropriate DEPA-2026 form for an individual or legal person to the Single point of contact for housing assistance. Include bank-account identification, detailed paid invoices, the POCH-2026 technical sheet, the dated order where relevant, proof of the heat-pump approval appointment request and any applicable energy-performance assessment. The technical sheet can be completed and signed by the energy adviser, the person who calculated energy performance, the responsible architect or the installer.
For a commonhold or apartment building, include COLL-2026 and owner powers of attorney, or the accepted alternative records authorising the works, plus a list of apartments and the floor areas used in their energy-performance calculations, excluding shared spaces. The forms can require further attachments.
The optional pre-financing route starting in 2027 is submitted by a registered intermediary company through MyGuichet.lu.
