Emissions Reduction Grant

Mennonite Church CanadaCanadáaté 3 mil CADencerrado

Grants cover up to half the cost of building energy upgrades and related audits for Mennonite Church Canada congregations, up to CAD 3,000 per project.

Esta oportunidade está atualmente disponível em inglês.

Fund hardware and installation that reduce your congregation’s greenhouse gas emissions, such as efficient lighting, building insulation, heat pumps or solar panels. Your proposal may also include reimbursement for an energy audit to identify suitable improvements.

The grant covers up to 50% of the proposed project cost, to a maximum of CAD 3,000. Payment normally follows submission of receipts dated from 14 April 2026 to 2 November 2027. Submit receipts for reimbursement by 2 November 2027. If you need funding in advance, contact Sandy Plett at splett@mennonitechurch.ca to discuss it.

If suitable applications exceed the available funding, selection aims to cover all regions, different project types, and both large and small congregations. After considering those factors, projects are prioritized by the cost-effectiveness of their carbon reductions, using the Energy Conservation Pyramid, which ranks lower-cost measures with greater impact toward its base.

Eligibility

Your congregation must belong to Mennonite Church Canada and be willing to create and carry out an ongoing plan to reduce emissions from its operations. If it has received this grant before, it must wait at least two years before applying again.

  • Type 1: Efficient lighting, switching from gas to electric or high-efficiency appliances, and improvements to windows, doors, insulation or ventilation do not require an energy audit. Consult appropriate experts or professionals before proceeding. Energy Star appliances are strongly recommended.
  • Type 2: More efficient heating and cooling, including geothermal or air-source heat pumps, and renewable energy installations such as solar panels require an audit or a firm estimate of energy savings compared with current use. If you have no audit, obtain the estimate from your contractor and include it in the application. These projects may combine this grant with other grants.

Complete the Greener Congregation Vision Exercise and prepare written responses to its three reflection questions. A group discussion is encouraged; selection does not depend on the congregation’s existing achievements.

View or review the resources listed in Step 2 of the official grant page: the Energy Efficient Faith Buildings webinar, the 2024 grant launch, the 2025 celebration and launch, and the solar-panel webinar. Then arrange the audit or professional consultation appropriate to your project, collect estimates and plan the work.

Submit the online application to Mennonite Church Canada by 15 October 2026. Explain the project, its place in your wider emissions reduction plan, how you will share your green-energy vision with the community, and how you will fund the balance of the cost. Successful applicants are scheduled to be notified on 2 November 2026.

If you cannot apply online, complete the paper form and scan and email it to Sandy Plett at splett@mennonitechurch.ca, or ask her for a mailing address.
