Funding for business energy improvements in Germany

Finance for efficient equipment, renewable process heat, energy controls and production improvements. Small companies can also get support for electrification.

KfW 295 has separate funding categories for these investments. Research and development, used equipment and operating costs are excluded.

The loan application goes through a financing partner before the project begins.

Umweltinnovationsprogramm (230)

KfWup to 7.5m EUR

Investment grants or interest-subsidised loans for companies and public bodies delivering first large-scale demonstrations of environmental technologies in Germany.

Loans and other finance

Business energy and resource efficiency loan (295)

KfWup to 100m EUR

Loans for organizations investing in efficient industrial equipment, renewable process heat, energy-management systems or process electrification in Germany. After KfW accepts the completed work, it reduces the amount the borrower must repay.

Climate investment loan (293)

KfWup to 25m EUR

Loans of up to €25 million per project for climate-technology production, lower-carbon industrial processes or infrastructure. Businesses and self-employed applicants can finance projects in Germany; projects elsewhere in the EU need a specified German company connection.

Environmental investment loan (240, 241)

KfWup to 25m EUR

Loans of normally up to €25 million per project for businesses financing eligible resource-saving, pollution-control, climate-mitigation or climate-resilience investments in Germany or elsewhere in the EU.

Renewable energy loan (270)

KfWup to 150m EUR

Loans of up to €150 million per project for renewable electricity, heat, networks and storage, including projects abroad when the applicant has the required German corporate connection.

Large-scale sustainable transformation financing (291)

KfWup to 100m EUR

Large loans arranged by several financing partners for majority privately owned businesses making eligible cleaner industrial, energy, transport or other environmental investments, with KfW normally covering €7.5 million to €100 million of the lenders' risk.
