Rainwater cistern grant

Municipality of GräfelfingGermanyup to 2k EURcloses 31 Dec 2026

Grants help building owners, owners associations and tenants install rainwater cisterns for garden irrigation on properties in Gräfelfing.

This entry covers rainwater cisterns used for garden irrigation under the municipal climate-adaptation programme. The grant supports the cistern, equipment that directs rainwater into it and installations needed to use the stored water. Cisterns retain rain during heavy storms and reduce water consumption.

The grant covers up to 40% of construction and material costs, subject to a maximum based on cistern volume:

Cistern volume Maximum grant
0.5–1.99 m³ €1,200
2–2.99 m³ €1,300
3–3.99 m³ €1,400
4–4.99 m³ €1,500
5–5.99 m³ €1,600
6–6.99 m³ €1,700
7–7.99 m³ €1,800
8–8.99 m³ €1,900
9 m³ or more €2,000

Payment follows completion and the municipality's check of detailed final invoices. The programme is voluntary, with no entitlement to funding. Its 2026 budget is €15,000, and applications are considered only while money remains.

Eligibility

  • The property must be in Gräfelfing. Building owners, owners associations and tenants can apply. Tenants must attach the owner's consent to the application.
  • Only one cistern can receive support per property. Across the programme, the maximum funding per applicant is €5,000.
  • Apply with a complete application before ordering, signing a purchase contract or starting work. This entry follows the route of waiting for approval before those steps. Planning, obtaining quotations, applying for or obtaining building permission, soil investigations and land purchase do not count as starting the measure.
  • Comply with any technical conditions the municipality sets during assessment. It may inspect the project during the application process or after completion, and you must grant its representatives access when requested.
  • Complete the work within one year after receiving approval. After installation, label rainwater outlets “Kein Trinkwasser!” (not drinking water). Inform Würmtal Zweckverband that the rainwater will be used for garden irrigation.
  • Provide correct, complete information and documents, and immediately notify the municipality of changes affecting funding. It may deduct €70 from the grant for repeated processing, for example after change requests or missed agreed dates. The municipality accepts no liability for building damage after construction or alterations.
